This week, we had a sticky toffee pudding ‘contest’ at our house. Cartmel Sticky Toffee Pudding vs this recipe from Paul Hollywood. Cartmel is famous as ‘the home of sticky toffee pudding’ and Paul Hollywood is famous as the somewhat surly male half of the judging duo on my favourite TV programme, the Great British Bake Off.
The results in short: homemade tastes so much better. Although the Cartmel version was, of course, much easier and quicker (15 minutes in the oven and it’s ready to eat), and was delicious, the homemade version was heavenly!
The recipe I used called for fudge pieces and macadamia nuts added to the mixture. I didn’t have any fudge so left it out, but the nuts added a nice variety to the texture. The toffee sauce took a bit of time to make as I stood there stirring it, terrified of burning it. The grilling stage was the most precarious. I only just saved it from burning! The sponge itself also took only 20 minutes to cook, less than the recipe specified. Anyway, I was so happy with my first ever homemade stp and will definitely make it again!
